About Me

I’m Beth Main. I’m a professional counselor licensed in Maine and Pennsylvania, and a certified ADHD coach. I help neurodivergent adults make meaningful progress (however they define it) without trying to be someone they’re not.
My Story
As a kid, I never quite felt like I fit in. I was intelligent, but that didn’t seem to matter when I kept forgetting things, made careless mistakes, and didn’t do homework. People would say things like, “How can somebody so smart be so stupid?” or “You’d be unstoppable if you just lived up to your potential.” Tenacious was a good word to describe me. If I wanted something, I made it happen. Definitely ADHD magic – although I didn’t know it at the time.
My first career was in Information Technology. The project-oriented work suited me well. I stayed with the same company for 18 years, working my way up to a project manager role. A mentor gave me the guidance, encouragement, and tools to get myself organized. I also became good at untangling complexity and breaking things down into manageable steps – skills I still rely on. But as the company grew, the bureaucracy made it harder to stay engaged. Meetings about meetings? No thank you.
It was around this time that I was diagnosed with ADHD. It explained sooooo much. Later, learning about autism felt like another missing piece. Between the diagnosis, what was happening at work, and my desire to help people, I decided it was time to leave corporate life and follow my heart. So I trained as an ADHD coach and started my practice.
It didn’t take long before I realized that most of my clients had co-occurring mental health concerns that were better addressed in therapy. Things like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Completing my master’s degree and becoming a licensed professional counselor gave me the ability to support them more holistically without referring them elsewhere.
I continue learning and expanding my skills. I’ve done extensive continuing education in ADHD, autism, and trauma therapy, including EMDR certification, to better address the range of challenges my clients face.
Since 2006, I’ve helped hundreds (maybe thousands?) of clients find their way forward – with less shame, more clarity, and tools that actually work for them.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
Clients often describe me as calm, observant, and direct – the kind of person who notices patterns and asks the right questions. My approach is both intuitive and practical. I trust my instincts and use that insight to guide the process. At the same time, I offer concrete tools and structure.
I genuinely care about the people I work with. You’ll never be ghosted, dismissed, or belittled. I show up consistently, with honesty and respect, because I believe that safe, straightforward support is what makes meaningful progress possible.
On a personal level
I live on a farm in rural western Maine with my husband, dog, goats, chickens, cats, and horses. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, photography, and website development. I’m an INFP. I’m an optimist. My favorite color is blue.
My motto? Never underestimate the power of positive thinking – and trusted checklists.
