Coaching for Adults with ADHD or AuDHD

You’ve read all the books, watched the videos, and listened to the podcasts. Yet you still feel stuck. You’re not alone. Knowing what ADHD is and knowing what to do about it are two different things.

That’s where coaching comes in.

As a certified ADHD life coach, I help adults with ADHD and AuDHD connect the dots between insight and action. Together, we’ll figure out what’s getting in your way—and create systems that actually work for you. I bring experience, structure, and deep understanding. You bring honesty, effort, and a desire for change. It’s a powerful team.

Areas of concern typically addressed in ADHD coaching

Coaching is practical and goal-focused. We’ll work on things like:

  • Time management and planning
  • Organization and follow-through
  • Procrastination and prioritizing
  • Confidence and self-trust
  • Executive function challenges
  • Life balance and relationships

Many of my clients come to coaching with specific life goals, like starting a business or finishing creative projects. These are the kinds of things that can feel especially challenging when you’re neurodivergent. We focus on your goals and work through the ADHD-related obstacles that might be getting in the way. Where are you stuck? What needs to shift so you can move forward? That’s what we figure out together.

How does ADHD coaching work?

The ADHD coaching partnership is flexible and designed to meet your needs. In our first session, we’ll talk about what you want to achieve, where things stand now, and start identifying your long-term goals. In each session after that, you’ll decide what we work on. It helps to come prepared with an agenda.

We’ll dig into the issue, figure out what’s really going on, and do some focused problem-solving. I’ll bring suggestions based on my experience with ADHD, and you’ll bring your own insights—because you’re the expert on you. Together, we’ll identify one or more actions you’re willing to take between sessions.

Accountability is a key part of coaching. We’ll review your progress during each session and adjust as needed. If you choose an optional monthly coaching plan, you’ll send me a brief update once a week, and I’ll initiate a second check-in—so you’ll have two touchpoints between sessions to help you stay on track.

How long will I need coaching?

How long coaching lasts really depends on a few things—how many goals you want to work on, the unique challenges your ADHD presents, how complex your situation feels, and how much time and energy you’re able to put in. Everyone’s journey is unique. Some people focus on one or two goals and finish sooner, while others prefer ongoing support as they tackle more. My role is to support you at your own pace until you feel confident managing ADHD on your own. Typically, this process takes between three months and a year.

What about medication?

Medication can be an important part of a successful treatment plan. However, medication alone doesn’t teach the planning, organization, and time-management skills that many people with ADHD need. For example, medication might help you concentrate long enough to pay your bills, but it won’t teach you how to stay organized enough to keep track of them.

Research shows that combining medication with behavioral supports—like ADHD coaching or therapy—is often the most effective way to manage symptoms. Whether or not to include medication in your treatment plan is totally up to you.  I’ll support you no matter what you choose.

What is a BCC and why does it matter?

The field of coaching isn’t regulated—anyone can call themselves a coach. A credential is a good way to make sure a coach you might want to hire has the qualifications to be able to help you. An ADHD coaching credential signifies that the coach has obtained a high level of skill, knowledge, and experience as an ADHD coach, and has passed a rigorous examination by the credentialing organization. I’ve earned the Certified ADHD Coach (CAC) credential (which is unfortunately no longer in use) and the Board Certified Coach (BCC) credential, both of which reflect advanced training and demonstrated skill.
