Assessments for ADHD and Autism
Wondering if you might have ADHD, AuDHD, or autism? You’re in the right place.
Why Get Diagnosed
A diagnosis puts a name to lifelong struggles with things like focus, organization, time management, relationships, flexibility, and sensory sensitivities. It brings validation. It makes it easier to find the right supports. Most importantly, it fosters self-compassion, because these challenges come from neurological differences, not a lack of effort. A diagnosis is the first step toward working with your brain rather than against it.
Getting an assessment nowadays isn’t always easy. Full neuropsychological evaluations are valuable, but they’re expensive – often thousands of dollars – and usually not covered by insurance. Wait lists can be long. Many people turn to self-diagnosis, which is valid, but sometimes leaves lingering doubt.
My online assessments for ADHD and autism are thorough yet manageable. They strike a balance between too much and too little, showing whether you meet diagnostic criteria without the cost or complexity of a full neuropsychological evaluation.
What’s Included
Each assessment includes:
- Structured diagnostic interview to explore your history and current experiences relative to ADHD and/or autism
- Standardized rating scales completed by you and, if possible, someone who knows you well
- Computerized testing to identify executive function difficulty
- Optional review of relevant records such as previous evaluations
- Clear written report showing whether you meet the diagnostic criteria
- Results session to review findings, answer questions, and discuss next steps
PLEASE NOTE:
- This is not a full neuropsychological evaluation. IQ or aptitude testing, and assessments for other conditions (such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, or learning disorders) are not included.
- Some schools or workplaces require documentation from a psychologist, psychiatrist, or physician. If you need a diagnosis for this purpose, check to make sure a professional counselor’s assessment will be accepted.
- Only medical doctors (including psychiatrists) can prescribe medication and may prefer to conduct their own evaluation.
- Results may be inconclusive. Based on the information available, a diagnosis might not be confirmed, though this is unlikely. Even so, the results can still guide supports and next steps.
- You must be in Maine or Pennsylvania for an evaluation since I’m licensed only in these states.
How It Works and What It Costs
Evaluations are available as part of ongoing therapy or as a stand-alone service. They can be done online for adults in Maine or Pennsylvania.
If you’re already a client:
We can fold the evaluation process into your therapy – either dedicating a session or two to the diagnostic interview, or completing it organically as part of our ongoing work. You’ll complete the standardized questionnaires and computerized testing at home. This approach works well because we already have a relationship, and I likely already know many of the relevant details. You’ll pay your usual session rate, plus a separate fee for the computerized testing, questionnaire scoring, and written report.
If you’re not a current client:
If you already have a therapist, you don’t have to switch. The diagnostic interview is billed at my standard session rate and usually takes two to three sessions, with an additional session to go over the results. Computerized testing, questionnaire scoring, and the written report are billed as a flat fee as listed in my fee schedule. This option also works well for people who prefer not to engage in ongoing therapy.
